Carberry/North Cypress

The Carberry/North Cypress library is conducting a Programming Survey that will run until December 13th. The survey is only four questions long and asks what type of programs you would like to see hosted at the library.

While books may be our main focus, another important part of what the library does is offering free programming to the community that is fun, interesting, and engaging. We want to offer programs that fit our community needs, and to achieve that we rely on input from our patrons.

It would certainly help us in providing better programming if you could take just a couple of minutes to answer our short survey. You can fill out a copy of the survey by following this link:

www.surveymonkey.com/r/9RVQ53P

or by stopping by the library and getting a paper copy. There is also a question about changing our hours that we would greatly appreciate patron input on.

Got a child between the ages  of 8-12 who wants to learn computer programming? Coder Dojo is a FREE program that teaches how to code games, websites, and other cool stuff! Your computer ninja will learn using Scratch, a visual platform that begins with simple drag-and-drop options to get them started quickly and easily. Winter Program Guides

Winter Program Guides (spanning January to March 2020) will be available for pick-up from the Brandon Public Library in mid-December. The guide will also be posted to our Facebook page. You can find us on Facebook by searching @wmrlibrary. These guides will provide detailed information on the programs being offered to both children and adults during the winter months, including their dates, times, age ranges, and whether or not pre-registration is required.

Pre-registration for all applicable programs will begin on Monday, January 6th at 10:00 a.m. Registration for library programs can be done either in person at the library (see the Returns Desk to register for Adult programs and the Children's Services desk to register for Children's/Youth programs) or by phone at 204-727-6648. All we require is name and contact information. All library programs are offered at no charge to participants.

BU at the Brandon Public Library

  • One Thursday a month at 7:00 pm
  • Next session: Jan. 16, 2020

No registration required! Brandon University and the Brandon Public Library are excited to partner on a public speaker series that will bring academic research into the community. Once a month, a member of BU's faculty will present their research to a public audience at the Brandon Public Library. Presentations will follow one of two formats: the first format is a 30-minute talk geared towards a lay audience, followed by a discussion period. The second format is an evening of two 15-minute talks by two speakers with entirely different research areas, followed by a discussion period about the unlikely pairing.

The Speaker Series aims to bridge the gap between "town and gown" by providing the public with engaging learning opportunities, while also providing faculty a wider audience for their work. The next session of BU at the Brandon Public Library will be held on January 16th and feature a talk by Patty Douglas entitled "How a digital storytelling project is changing minds about the problem of autism in schools." This event will feature refreshments from Benny's Restaurant along with wine pairings.
