A Visit will get you Thinking

  Tuesday October 16, 2018

October is Canadian Library Month and Neepawa Library celebrated by holding an Open House on October 4th to mark 50 years of membership in the Western Manitoba Regional Library and as a public library serving Neepawa and area residents. Thank you to all the valued library supporters, including many former staff and board members, who joined us in celebrating this remarkable milestone. The national campaign’s phrase, “A Visit Will Get You Thinking,” was coined to encourage users and non-users alike to consider the many reasons why libraries are important. As for Neepawa, the current library was opened in 1996 after a formidable team of supporters lobbied local and municipal governments for its construction.  Considered state-of-the-art at the time, this building was created not only to hold materials, but to provide easy access and to become a common meeting place for all area users. We could say that a visit to the Neepawa Public Library gets us thinking about how local residents joined together to support a valuable resource for their fellow citizens!During the month of October, the WMRL will be promoting libraries and their value in a number of ways. We offer programs for pre-school and school-age children at all of our branches, as well as book clubs and other adult programs.  Visit our website at wmrl.ca to connect to our Facebook and Twitter pages for notices on our upcoming programs as well as interesting tidbits about libraries. We’d love to hear from our users as well – let us know how “A Visit Will Get You Thinking!”Library thinker: “In the nonstop tsunami of global information, librarians provide us with floaties and teach us to swim.” – Linton Weeks
