The WMRL is excited to again be partnering with TD Summer Reading Club to offer a virtual version of the summer programming this year! The TD Summer Reading Club is a free program that aims to encourage a love for literature and reading throughout the summer months.
Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program is adaptable for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. The program is aimed at children aged 12 years and under and strives to engage all children in the joy of reading, while also championing Canadian writers and illustrators. TD SRC helps to connect families with books and to build confidence in reading.
The program runs from June 15 to August 14, 2020.
Where can you register?
To register or learn more about the program, please visit the official TD Summer Reading Club website:
Don’t forget to choose your local WMRL branch as your library when signing up! (Note that the Brandon Shoppers Mall branch is included under the Brandon Public Library on the site.)
What’s Different this Year?
Due to COVID-19 the Summer Reading Club will be looking a little bit different this year. The WMRL will not be distributing any physical materials this year and the program will be run virtually through the TD Summer Reading Club website. The website offers a variety of ways to earn Summer Reading Club badges and encourages children to fill up their personal notebook with the books they’ve read, stories they’ve written, and much more.
This year, rather than reading for a certain number of minutes, the WMRL encourages Summer Reading Club participants to collect as many badges as possible and to fill their personal library with as many books as they can! The website offers many other features, such as the ability to read ebooks, participate in weekly trivia, write jokes and comics, print fun colouring sheets, and much more. Each participant will receive a prize for completing the program.
In addition to the array of features offered on the TD website, the WMRL is also offering weekly reading challenges for a chance to be featured on our social media! See below for more information.
After you’ve signed up for the TD Summer Reading Club the WMRL invites you to participate in weekly reading challenges throughout the summer! A new Challenge will be posted here and on our social media each week, starting Monday, June 22.
To participate, send a picture of your completed Weekly Challenge to firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday each week to be featured on our social media pages. For each challenge completed your name will be entered to win a prize! In your email entries please be sure to include you or your child’s full name, age, phone number, and local WMRL branch in order to be entered.
Weekly Challenge #3 (July 6): Read something outside of the box! Send us a photo of you reading something other than a book. This could mean picking up a magazine, a comic or graphic novel, or even going virtual and trying out one of the ebooks offered on the TD Summer Reading site or from our WMRL e-resources. Have entries in by Sunday July 12th for a chance to be featured on our social media!
Open to all ages, but recommended for those 13+, the WMRL is excited to offer a new Summer Reading Challenge: Bookish Bingo!
Download, print, or screenshot the template below, or pick up a copy at your local WMRL branch, in order to participate and track your reading over the summer. For each line of bingo you complete send a picture or screenshot to email@example.com, including your name, age, library card number, and local WMRL branch to receive and entry into a prize draw. Complete every square for a chance at an extra 5 bonus entries!
The challenge runs until August 14th.
