Summer Reading with WMRL 2021

Thank you for participating in the Western Manitoba Regional Library's Summer Reading Program!

The WMRL Summer Reading Program is complete for this year and the final prizes are on the way to anyone who completed the program!

How does the program work?

Since all branches the WMRL are currently closed to the public, we have decided to make our program as simple as possible. Here’s how you participate:

  1. Pick up a notebook from your local WMRL branch or use a notebook from home.
  2. Read something each week.
  3. Record the title and author of the book(s) you read in a notebook.
  4. Collect your prizes!

To learn more about the program, please contact your local WMRL branch. Branches are listed here, simply select your branch to view its contact information. Please note that if you are a Brandon resident, you should email programs@nullwmrl.ca for information.

How can prizes be collected?

If we are open to the public this summer, then you can stop by your local WMRL branch to collect your prizes. Make sure to bring your notebook so we can see what you’ve read!

If we continue to be closed to the public in accordance to public health orders, then you will have to call or email your local WMRL branch to make arrangements to pick up your prize.

What can you read?

Any book qualifies. This means you can read a novel, a picture book, a graphic novel or comic book, a nonfiction book, eBook, or whatever else you can get your hands on! Here are our eResources and our catalogue to help you get started.

There are no required titles, authors, or themes to be read for this program. For those wanting some inspiration, we have created OPTIONAL weekly themes with a suggested Book List.

Here they are:

  • Week One (June 28-July 2): O Canada! Read a book set in Canada or a book by a Canadian author.
  •
  • Week Two (July 5-July 9): Tails and Tales! Read a book about an animal.
  •
  • Week Three (July 12-July 16): Once Upon a Time! Read a classic or reimagined fairy tale.
  •
  • Week Four (July 19-23): Around the World! Read a book set in another country or a book by an author from another country.
  •
  • Week Five (July 26-July 30): Game on! Read a book about sports, an athlete, or the Olympics.
  •
  • Week Six (August 2-August 6): Be Creative! Read a book about art, writing, or anything creative.
  •
  • Week Seven (August 9-August 13): Road trip! Read a book about a road trip.
  •
  • Week Eight (August 16-August 20): Back in Time! Read a historical fiction book.

Teen & Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Open to all ages, but recommended for those 13+, the WMRL is excited to offer a new Summer Reading Challenge: Bookish Bingo!
