Our summer contests are for everyone!

The contests are outlined below with materials available to print at home. If you have any questions, please email

Brandon Sun & WMRL Short Story Contest

The WMRL and Brandon Sun are partnering to present a Short Story Contest for writers in Brandon and the surrounding areas.

The contest is open to all ages, and all levels of writing experience are welcome. Writers are encouraged to write about any subject, whether that be fiction or non-fiction.

There will be three categories for submissions: children (ages 6-12), teens (ages 13-18), and adults (ages 19+). Children’s submissions should be no more than 500 words in length, while teen and adult submissions should be no more than 1,000 words in length. Our panel of judges will choose the top stories from each category to be printed in the Brandon Sun!

This contest ends on August 31, 2021. Submissions can be dropped off at your local WMRL branch or sent by email to as Word, PDF, or JPEG attachments. All submissions must be accompanied with a completed Entry Form, which can be found below.
