The Western Manitoba Regional Library (WMRL) has a staff of about 30 individuals across its six branches. Positions include Director of Library Services, Manager of Programming & Community Services, Manager of Access Services, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, Branch Supervisor, Library Clerk and Student Assistant.

Branch Supervisor - Hartney/Grassland Library

The Western Manitoba Regional Library is seeking an organized, friendly, and creative person to join our staff in the capacity of Branch Supervisor at the Hartney/Grassland Public Library. This is a part-time position, 16 hours per week, with the hours of work listed below. 

Position: Branch Supervisor

Location: Hartney/Grassland Public Library 

Weekly Hours:

  • Tuesday 1:00pm – 5:00pm  
  • Wednesday 1:00pm – 5:00pm 
  • Thursday 1:00pm – 5:00pm 
  • Friday 1:00pm – 5:00pm 

Compensation: $21.50/hour (eligible to increase based on education or experience) 

Start Date: As soon as successful candidate is available

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; 
  • Strong supervisory and mentoring skills; 
  • Organized and procedurally-oriented; 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse management team, and to take direction and change priorities in a dynamic, public-facing environment; 
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgement; 
  • Comfort in dealing with difficult or confrontational situations; 
  • Technologically proficient; 
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle; 
  • Library Technician Diploma and prior experience in a library environment are assets 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

ADMINISTRATION 

  • Adhere to WMRL policies and procedures and participate in developing new ones 
  • Act as Branch liaison to the Director of Library Services and other administration 
  • Be responsible for human resource matters relating to Branch operations 
  • Adhere to personnel policies and procedures of the WMRL System 
  • Select, train, supervise and evaluate support staff and volunteers 
  • Schedule Hartney staff, including creating daily desk schedules 
  • Submit a biweekly timesheet of staff hours to the Administrative Assistant on the Wednesday preceding the end of the pay period 
  • Working with the Downtown Brandon Library staff and administration, oversee the selection and movement of library materials through rotation between the Main Branch and the Hartney Library 
  • As required, attend Branch Supervisor meetings,  Regional Board meetings, and conferences/seminars 
  • Organize and facilitate training and informational meetings for the staff of the Hartney Library 
  • Compile daily, monthly, and yearly statistics, financial accounts and written reports as requested for both regional and local use 
  • Supervise and organize building maintenance, cleaning and security 
  • Ensure local stock of regionally purchased supplies 
  • Identify and apply for relevant grants for local initiatives 

COMMUNITY RELATIONS  

  • Work with the Manager of Programming and Community Services to ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling to support programs and outreach activities at the Hartney Library – participating/facilitating in activities as required 
  • Provide library orientation to individuals and/or groups as needed 
  • Promote the Library to the community 

PUBLIC SERVICES       

  • Oversee staff in providing the following services: 
  • daily circulation, including checking materials in and out, registering patrons, collecting overdue fines and payments for lost/damaged items, and providing reader’s advisory and reference service 
  • creating and maintaining displays 
  • performing all other daily activities required to serve the needs of the public 

TECHNICAL SERVICES 

  • Be responsible for maintenance of local collection 
  • Assess the needs and interests of the community by analyzing circulation patterns,  borrower requests both internal (inter-branch loans) and external (interlibrary loans) in order to make recommendations to collection development staff  as to appropriate acquisitions for the branch 
  • Evaluate donated items for collection/book sale/recycling using criteria such as regional/local holdings, condition, publication date, and relevance/usefulness to local collection and submit for cataloguing 
  • Create and edit patron records  
  • Run request pull lists, expired hold reports, and overdue notices on a daily basis 
  • Make recommendations for eBook and Audiobook selections on Overdrive Marketplace, and sharing patron recommendations with Collection Development staff. 
  • Attend and contribute to Local Advisory Committee meetings  

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES 

  • Assist patrons with the use of current technology devices and accessing e-resources 
  • Perform basic trouble shooting on computer equipment 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • 16 hours per week – some evening and weekend work may be required based on schedule and programs, some flexibility in hours. 
  • Based out of the Hartney Library Branch. Ability to work from home and supervise staff remotely if required 
  • Once a year, attend a regional board meeting 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Criminal Record Check will be required at own expense by date indicated in Letter of Hire 
  • Child Abuse Registry Check will be required at own expense by date indicated in Letter of Hire
