The Western Manitoba Regional Library (WMRL) has a staff of 30 individuals in its five branches. Positions include Director of Library Services, Assistant  Librarian, Administrative Assistant, Branch Supervisor, Library Assistant and Student Assistant.  When we are looking for individuals to join our staff, vacant positions will be posted here and they may also be advertised in external print and online resources.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT II – Children’s Services

The Western Manitoba Regional Library is seeking an individual to fill the role of Library Assistant II in the Children’s Department of the Brandon Public Library. The successful candidate will plan and deliver programs for children and youth, including Toddler Time and Baby Time programs. The candidate will plan and set up displays, assist with book processing, and perform customer service and patron registration functions. This is a unionized position with hourly pay in accordance with the current Collective Agreement. This is a part-time position with the following hours:


  • Monday: 10:00 – 6:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 10:00 – 6:00 pm
  • Thursday: 5:00 – 9:00 pm (alternating)
  • Saturday: 10:00 – 6:00 pm (alternating September through June)

The rotation of hours will be:

  • Week One: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday
  • Week Two: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday


  • Hands-on experience in planning and delivering programs for children and youth
  • Comfort working with all areas of the public, with an emphasis on children, youth, and families
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency including basic troubleshooting skills, and use of software applications and the Internet
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative manner
  • Graphic design experience an asset
  • Previous library experience an asset
