Indigenous People’s Day

Indigenous People’s Day

  Thursday June 16, 2022

On June 21, 2022, we celebrate national Indigenous People’s Day. This day holds significant meaning to Indigenous people’s due to the fact it is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and many generations have celebrated their heritage on or around this day. This holiday highlights and celebrates the unique cultures of Metis, Inuit, and First Nation peoples. To know more about Indigenous culture, visit the Western Manitoba Library for book displays recognizing Indigenous cultures, achievements, and history. Additionally, the library is pleased to introduce Indigenous Story circle which takes place on July 11th. Story Circle is an Indigenous-led program where both creative and non-fiction stories can be shared by anyone who participates! No story-telling experience needed, just an open mind and heart as we share all kinds of stories from many different perspectives. Please email programs@nullwmrl.ca to register.
