New Podcast for WMRL

New Podcast for WMRL

  Tuesday April 6, 2021

The Western Manitoba Regional Library is pleased to announce that we have launched our first podcast, Brandonites. This series will feature interviews with local people who are passionate about what they’re up to. We will hear from these interesting folks about their history, their current passion and how they are connected to the community of Brandon. The aim is to celebrate the diversity, talent and grit that local people are bringing to our community, strengthening our sense of identity as a flourishing city. It is being produced by library staff at the Brandon branches and episodes will be released every two weeks via a platform called Anchor. Listeners are encouraged to suggest guests for the series. It also provides another way for us to reach out to people to share info about our current programming and invite listeners to visit our various branches.

Our first guest is local painter, Weiming Zhao. Upcoming episodes will feature Sherilyn Decter, local author and former mayor, and Dave Barnes of the Assiniboine Food Forest Initiative. We will continue to bring this calibre of guests to our future episodes.

Podcasts as a medium have been gaining wide popularity as a convenient and enjoyable way to hear stories or conversations from interesting people and the projects they are engaged in. Like audiobooks, this kind of content is great for listening to while going for a walk, doing chores or commuting to work. The Western Manitoba Regional Library’s mission is to enrich lives and strengthen communities by providing access to content; we are now making use of podcasting as a new medium for this mission.

Feedback on our podcast is welcome and can be sent to programs@nullwmrl.ca.

Happy listening!
